Charles Bert Gibson Obituary

 

Charles Bert Gibson, age 78, of Russell, IA passed away Saturday, September 2, 2023 at the Westridge Care Facility in Knoxville, Iowa.

Charles was born November 9, 1944 in Osceola, IA, The son of Ed and Ethel (Marshall) Gibson.  He graduated from Corydon High School with the Class of 1963.  After High School, he farmed with his dad for about a year, worked at Heinz in Davenport, and for Charlie Cooks Auto Repair in Corydon.  He furthered his education at Indian Hill Community College for two years, where he studied to be an auto mechanic.

Charles then worked at Johnston-Hardie Ford in Chariton for 20 years the Napa Auto for 20 years. After that, he worked at Mathias Machin Shop in Melcher &Rod’s Auto Repair in Corydon.

Charles enjoyed working on cars, and enjoyed working on race cars.  He and his brother Bill were fully involved in building and setting them up (repairs too).

Charles is survived by his daughter, Sherri Ann (Gary) Buban of Brazil, IA, granddaughter, Shayla (Drew) Houghtlen, also of Brazil, IA, brother William Gibson of Chariton, IA,  a sister, Nancy (Alvin) Arnold of Humeston, IA, a nephew, Tony (Kim) Arnold of Corydon, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Ethel Gibson.

As requested, there will be no services. Assisting with final arrangements will be Fielding Funeral Home of Chariton.  A private burial will take place at a later date at the Chariton Cemetery in Chariton, IA.  Memorials have been established to the Westridge Care Facility in Knoxville, iA or Care Initiatives Hospice in Albia, IA.  In lieu of Flowers.
