Darrell Swan Obituary


 

Darrell Swan, age 51, of Oskaloosa, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2020 under Hospice Care at his home in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was born on May 17, 1969 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of David and Lola (Cortez) Swan Sr. He attended Russell High School and graduated with the Class of 1988. After high school he attended Indian Hills Community College and received his Associates Degree. On October 6, 1990 he was united in marriage to Angelisa Braida in Chariton, Iowa. To this union a daughter was born, Presley. Darrell and Angelisa later divorced.

Following high school, Darrell went to work at Ideal Ready Mix in Chariton. He was working as manager until his accident in 1994 and was no longer able to work. Darrell was a sports enthusiast, and in his younger years he was a stand-out athlete in football, basketball and track. He enjoyed watching professional wrestling and loved spending time with his family.

Darrell is survived by his daughter, Presley (Kole) McCormick of Chariton; a grandson, Kane McCormick; his mother, Lola (Tony) Harbin of Oskaloosa; his father, David (Gwen) Swan Sr., of Rogers, AR; his siblings, David (Becky) Swan Jr of Russell, IA, Darrin (Gina) Swan or Fairhope, AL. and Michelle (Ron) Dickerson of Rogers, AR; two half-sisters, Guinevere (Skip) Langeberg of Spokane, WA and Jennifer Swan of Spokane, WA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 from 5:00p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Bates Funeral Chapel with the family present to greet guests and relatives. A private funeral service will be held at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event. Memorials may be made to the family.

Doris Clanin Obituary

August 25, 1922 ~ September 30, 2020 (age 98)
 
 

Doris J. (Horner) Clanin, 98, passed peacefully away with her daughters by her side, Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at the Corydon Specialty Care in Corydon, IA.  Doris was born on August 25, 1922 to Harold and Alta (Lynn) Horner in rural Russell, Iowa.  In 1940, she graduated from Russell High School.

On July 30, 1944, she was united in marriage to the love of her life Neil Clanin. To this union, three daughters were born, Julene, Marilyn and Connie.  Doris lost her husband in a tragic accident, June 24, 1976.  She lived in Lucas county all of her life.  Doris worked at the Lucas County Health Center as a Nursing assistant then a Ward clerk until she retired in January 7, 1985.

Doris accepted Christ and was faithful to the Lord and his teachings.  She was a member of the Bethel EUB in the rural Russell area and First United Methodist Church since 1986.  Doris had numerous hobbies and interest.  She loved to read, cook, gardening of flowers and plants, sewing, stitching.  Most of all, she loved to teach and volunteer her time to help others.  She received numerous honors and awards for her community involvement. 

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Alta Horner, husband, Neil, grandson Mark Ruden, brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Rita Horner, sisters and brothers-in-law, Anna and Dwayne Coulson, Audrey and Bob Main. Her Clanin brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughters, Julene Ruden, Cedar Rapids, IA, Marilyn Clanin, Cedar Rapids, IA, Connie Fry, Chariton, IA, sister-in-law Hazel Clanin, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and one on the way in October and numerous nieces and nephews.  Doris will be greatly missed by so many.  Pallbearers are those honor to serve her today.
