Bill was born July 29, 1936 in Story County, Iowa the only child of William and Ruth (Carr) Ross. He attended school in Ames and then graduated from Boone High School in 1955. Bill then went to community college before joining the U.S. Army serving for two years between the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.
Bill met Ramona while he was bartending at the “Love Bug”, a bar in Ames, Iowa. They were married on August 21, 1985. Bill worked many different jobs and was a “Jack of all trades”. He had worked in the family’s car detailing business, bartended, and drove a gravel truck.
Bill loved all sports and was an avid Hawkeye fan and also enjoyed the Cyclones. He liked to watch all sports on TV and often wished he could have been a professional golfer. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends and enjoyed a .15 cent or .25 cent between friends.
William Nelson Ross Jr. passed away April 11, 2018 at his home in Russell at the age of 81 years. No services are planned at this time. He is survived by his wife, Ramona (Foster) Ross; children: Ricky Ross, Rhonda (Rick) Allard, and Nick Ross; 5 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: William Nelson Ross Sr. and Ruth Leone (Carr) Carey.
