Steven Adam Neer was born on May 1, 1970 to Marvin and Sue (Abrahamson)
Neer in Knoxville, Iowa. He attended school in Russell from sixth grade
until graduating in 1989.
After graduation, he worked at HyVee part-time while gong to truck driving school. He then drove a truck for Brooks Trucking, then PDI where he worked for 26 years. He was also on the Russell Fire Department for 22 years from 1993 to 2014.
Steve married Robyn Schlutz in 1996 and to this union, they were blessed with two daughters: Avery and Emery. He later became engaged to Kellie Baker, and they have spent the last six years enjoying life together.
Steve was full of life, always finding the fun in everything he did. He was always grinning, especially when he was being ornery. He always had the best Christmas gifts, almost becoming a competition to see if he could one up everybody else. He was quite the jokester and loved to harass others in fun.
Steve enjoyed Sunday Fundays, which consisted of Busch Light and living life to the fullest. He loved to travel. His girls meant the world to him. He enjoyed following their high school softball tournaments, track and tennis. He also loved to ride motorcycles and enjoyed his boat after he got it. There was never a dull moment when Steve was around.
Steve will be greatly missed by his parents, Sue and Marvin; fiancé, Kellie Baker; his children: Avery (Riley) Collins, Emery Neer, Shelby (Kurt) Lucas, Emily (Weston) Conner, and Jessica Anderson (Zach Goemaat); grandchildren: Nora, Mia, Boone, and Lennex; siblings: Jim (Becki) Neer and Jeff (Mandy) Neer; nieces: Jessica, Marin, Nora, and Tori; nephew, T.J.; and his chocolate lab, Zeb.
The following is an announcement from his employer, PDI.
I am very sad to inform the PDI family that we have lost one of our own. Steve Neer, Route Driver, passed away yesterday while out on his route working for PDI. He was found parked in his truck where he passed away of unknown causes. Steve served PDI as a Route Driver faithfully for 26 years pulling loads out of the Chariton Distribution center. Kevin Gass, Senior Vice President Transportation stated, “Steve and his brother Jim were a team delivering to the Hy-Vee Stores in the Southern territory of Hy-Vee. Steve was a kind hearted person and as good of an employee as you can get. I am saddened for his family at his passing, he will be truly missed here at PDI.” Steve resided in Russell, Iowa and is survived by his fiance Kellie Baker and his two daughters, Avery Collins and Emery Neer, his parents Marvin and Sue Neer, and his brothers Jim and Jeff Neer.
Please keep Steve’s family in your thoughts and prayers.
