Ron Tonelli, age 68 of Moravia, Iowa, passed away, Friday, January 20, 2017 at his home, under the service of Good Samaritan Hospice.
He was born on August 25, 1948 in Polk County, Iowa, the son of Charlie and Harriett (Epps) Tonelli. Ron graduated from Valley West Des Moines High School in 1966.
Ron was united in marriage to Lois "Muffy" Orwig in Russell, Iowa, on April 17, 1977. Ron and Muffy would have celebrated forty years of marriage in April of this year.
He entered the United States Army on May 13, 1968. Serving his country faithfully during Vietnam war era. Ron was honorably discharged from the service in December of 1969.
Ron owned and operated Tonelli Construction in Lucas County for over twenty years.
In his able years he had several hobbies, including hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities. Gardening was his passion, and he enjoyed growing, and helping can the vegetables he grew. It was also very important to him to share with others from his garden’s surplus.
Anyone who knew Ron knew how important his small dogs were to him. Whether riding with him on the lawn mower in his lap, in his easy chair with him, or in his bed, they were always close by.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Lois "Muffy" Tonelli of Moravia, Iowa; two aughters, Virginia "Ginny" (Matt) Barrette of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Elizabeth Tonelli of Ankeny, Iowa; two grandchildren, Hayden Hoxmeier and Camila Barrette. He is also survived by several siblings, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and a host of other family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and several siblings.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Good Samaritan Hospice in Ottumwa and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
