Donald E. Overholtzer, Jr. passed away in his home on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 after a short battle with cancer.
Don was born Sept 8, 1946 in Kansas City, MO to Donald and Ethel (Cain) Overholtzer, Sr.
He proudly served his country by joining the Airforce at the age of 17. As part of his service, he completed a tour in Vietnam. His comment to this was "A lot of people said Vietnam was a wasted war, but there were plenty of children in Vietnam that didn't deserve what was going on."
He moved to his current home in rural Russell, Iowa after marrying his wife, Jana in 2004. Together they enjoyed traveling and spending time in their quiet country home. Don retired from the VA Medical Center in Des Moines in 2008.
He will be remembered by those who knew him for loving to pull practical jokes and his true loyalty to friends and family. Don could always be counted on for a warm smile and comforting words.
He loved his Kansas City Chiefs, Iowa Hawkeyes, and he loved to fish.
Don was preceded in death by his parents.
