Surrounded by family, Velma Baughman, 96, died peacefully at her home in Indianola, Iowa, on May 17, 2012. Born in Russell, Iowa, on April 12, 1916, she was the daughter of Thomas Claude and Myrtle Rebecca (Storm) Chapman. She graduated in 1933 from Russell High School, Russell, Iowa, where she participated in classroom activities and appeared in school plays.
Velma married Cleo A. Baughman of Russell on May 12, 1934, in Princeton, Missouri. They had four children, three daughters and one son, whom they raised in Indianola. Velma was devoted to her family, including her six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
Visitation was held Monday, May 21 at Peterson Funeral Home in Indianola, Iowa. A funeral service was held at Peterson's, Tuesday, May 22, 2012 with Interment to follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Indianola. The family wishes to thank the staffs of HCI of Central Iowa Hospice and to Circle of Friends for the loving care they provided to Velma during her final months.
