Marty was born June 6, 1960, in Ottumwa, to Joseph & Rosemary Lahart. He was the fourth of six children and raised on a farm north of Russell. He graduated from Russell High School in 1978.

Marty began working summers for Prather Brothers Construction and E & D Vault Company. In 1980, he began working nights in Data Processing for the Hy-Vee Distribution Center. While Data Processing eventually evolved into Order Processing, Marty moved to days and became the supervisor. He celebrated 41 years of service at Hy-Vee. In 2016 Marty received one of Hy-Vee’s highest recognitions, the Legendary Customer Service Award.

On October 6, 1990 he married his true love, Teresa McKenney at the Somers United Methodist Church. To this holy union, five children were born, Katelynn, Kellie, Kasey, Luke and Benjamin. He was so proud of his children and the people they are becoming. Marty attended every school event and extra-curricular activity whether for dance or scouts or sports, that time and work would allow.

While not a social butterfly, Marty had many loyal friends and co-workers and valued their friendship and time spent with them. At home, he was most happy messing around in the garage, garden, or working on farm related tasks on the farm still owned by him and his brothers. Marty also enjoyed vacations with his family, watching the Hawkeyes and Kansas City Chiefs, and going on long drives with Teresa.

Marty was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rosemary Lahart; sister, Joan Lahart-VanBortel; and daughter, Katelynn.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Teresa; children: Kellie (Josh), Kasey, Luke and Benjamin; brothers: Willie of Urbandale, Matt (Nancy) of Chariton, John (Bethany) of Chariton, and Dan of Davenport; in-laws, Dennis & Judith McKenney of Somers; brothers-in-law: Jason (Cherri) McKenney of Somers, Christopher (Brandi) McKenney of Palm City, Florida, and Brett (Vicki) Van Bortel of Wheaton, Illinois; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
