Harold Garner Obituary



 Harold Marion Garner, 81, of Ottumwa died at 4:10 a.m. August 25, 2019 at Hospice House.
He was born June 9, 1938 in Springdale, AR to Marion and Mildred Mayo Garner. He married Lois Yvonne Hohlfeld February 21, 1958 in Mt. Ayr, IA.
A graduate of Redding High School in 1956, Harold worked 41 ½ years for the Iowa DNR, retiring in 1998. In his career he helped oversee the movement of Giant Canadian Geese and wild turkeys to Iowa. After retiring, he and his wife, moved from Russell to Lake Rathbun, moving to Ottumwa in 2013.
He was a member of Pennsylvania Ave. Free Methodist Church and the Lions Club in Russell. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, having participated multiple times in the World Horseshoe Tournament. He also loved to hunt, fish, pick mushrooms and most importantly spend time with his family.
Surviving is his wife, Lois; two children, Richard (Kim) Garner and Carol (Doug) Drummond both of Ottumwa; 5 grandchildren, Kristen (Aaron) Bankson, Justin Drummond (fianceé, Erica Colvin), Nicole Drummond (fiancé, Brad Crosby), Zach Garner, Kourtney Garner (fiancé, Javier Cortez); 7 great- grandchildren, Kiley, Karter, Jayden, Hailey, Wyatt, Everly and Isabella; a brother, Ryland (Georgia) Garner of Carrollton, IL; two sisters, Bonnie Ward of Shenandoah, IA and Sue (Frank) Carson of Diagonal, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Billy Garner, LoDean Garner and Maxine Tridle.
His body has been cremated. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Pennsylvania Ave. Free Methodist Church with Pastor George King officiating.
The family will be present one hour prior to the service to greet friends.
Memorials may be made to Pennsylvania Ave. Free Methodist Church or Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties.
Reece Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
