Wilda J. Lange
January 13, 1922 ~ July 14, 2018 (age 96)
Wilda Juanita was born January 13, 1922, youngest of three children
born to Stella Mae Stratton and Francis M. Stuteville in Decatur County
near Davis City. She passed away, Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the Legacy
Lodge Hospice, located in Chariton, Iowa at the age of ninety-six years.
In 1930, her family moved to Wayne County. She grew to womanhood in the Confidence area. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and remained faithful in her beliefs until the end. She had her membership changed from New York Christian Church to the Chariton Church. She continued to serve her remaining years there.
Wilda met and married Ernest Brandon in 1940 and to this union one son was born, Michael Dee Brandon of Chariton. The war took it’s toll on the couple as her husband served in the Pacific for three and a half years. During that time the need was great for teachers. She started teaching in rural schools, thinking it a temporary thing, but she enjoyed it so much that she continued teaching and obtaining her own degree from Drake University in 1964. She taught a total of thirty-nine years. She took an early retirement because of her husband’s health.
In the latter part of 1986, Wilda met Lavon Lange (Bunny), as she was spending her winter in Texas. They were married that following June of 1987. They had resided in Chariton since then.
Wilda was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, one sister and one brother. She leaves to mourn her passing, her son, Michael, daughter-in-law, Kathy; grandchildren, Brenda Sotter and Shane Brandon; five great grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.
She loved people—a good book—flowers—and never too busy to lend a helping hand.
