H. Roderic "Rod" Turbot, age 94 of Fernandina Beach, FL passed away Thursday evening, April 4, 2013 at the McGraw Center for Caring in Jacksonville, FL. Mr. Turbot was born on March 19, 1919 in Russell, Iowa, the son of the late Hilton A. Turbot and Mary Meryle Wright. He was a native of Russell and graduated from Russell High School in 1936. He attended the University of Iowa and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Engineering in 1942. Mr. Turbot joined the war effort and became a flight instructor for the United States Army-Air Corp during WWII. He also met and married Cora Dudley during that time and they resided in Chariton, Iowa. Following the war, he began giving private flight instructions. Mr.Turbot later was employed by Johnson Machine Works in Chariton, Iowa, building bridges and aircraft hangers. In 1959, he relocated along with his family to Fernandina Beach where he formed ACME Machine Works in Jacksonville, FL and retired in 1984. He leaves behind his wife of 70 years, Cora Dudley "Coty" Turbot of Fernandina Beach, FL his son H. Roderic Turbot II of Orlando FL, his daughters, Mary Pamela Grant and Deborah Ann Nordstrom both of Fernandina Beach, FL. His brother, Larry Turbot of Omaha, NE, one grandson and three great-grandchildren of Chatham, NJ. A service is planned at a later date. Memorials may be made in his name to Community Hospice, 4715 Worrall Way, Jacksonville, FL 32224.
