Dorcas Davis Obituary

Memorial services for Dorcas and Earl Davis will be held January 24, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton with family receiving friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in care of HCI Care Services or the Chariton Senior Center.
Dorcas was born March 13, 1924 in Russell, Iowa to Guy and Hazel McKinley Smith. She graduated Russell High School in 1944. She was married to Charlie Powers and to this union Shirley was born.
Earl was born May 15, 1922 in Russell, Iowa to Lambert and Mabel Scarr Davis. He graduated from Russell High School in 1939 and attended Parsons College for a year. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific until 1946.
On February 20, 1947 Dorcas and Earl were united in marriage, to this union two children were born: Terry and Sonya. They farmed together until 1972. They also both worked at Russell Produce during this time. In addition Earl worked at Johnson Machine Works and later for Arnold Brothers in Russell and Dorcas worked at Bob Stone Cordage and Farmers Co-op for many years.
After selling the farm in 1972 Dorcas and Earl enjoyed traveling during the winter months for 23 years in Arizona, California, Texas, and Florida. Earl enjoyed the farm and woodworking. Dorcas enjoyed making crafts, knitting, crocheting, gardening, canning, and playing cards. They both enjoyed the time spent with family and especially enjoyed their grandchildren.
Dorcas passed away January 19, 2013 at the age of 88 years; her husband Earl passed away March 30, 2005 at the age of 82. Preceding them in death were their parents; siblings: Florence Osenbaugh, Charles Smith, Vernon Smith, and Noland Smith who died as an infant; and by two sons-in-law and a daughter-in-law. They are survived by children: Shirley Powers Morr, Terry Davis, and Sonya Putz; 5 grandchildren: Lori (Jeff) Hansen, Marty (Nancy) Wantland, Toni (Todd) Perdew, Earl (Danielle) Putz, and Lewis Putz; 8 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren
