Karla K. Buckalew Obituary

 June 23, 1965 ~ June 24, 2020 (age 55)


Karla Kay Buckalew went to be with Jesus on June 24, 2020. Karla was born in Chariton, Iowa on June 23, 1965 to Marvin and Jeannette (Cochran) Buckalew.

Karla graduated from Drake University with her BS in Economics, History, Political Science and Sociology with a secondary education teaching endorsement.

Karla was a corporate trainer for Sears/Citi 1992 – 2010, Wells Fargo 2010-2014 and Farm Bureau 2014 on.

Karla enjoyed flowers, walking in the timber and looking at wild flowers, animals, reading, crafts, baking, making candy, needlework, the Republican party and politics, traveling and helping others.

Remaining to cherish her memory are her parents; Marvin and Jeannette, sister Karen (Dennis Kanakulya), nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, poodle Mr. Angus and many friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Iowa State Fair for a plaque by the Farm Bureau exhibit “Growing our Future”.  She loved the State Fair and enjoyed being part of the Farm Bureau team.  Blue Ribbon Foundation IA State Fair

Andree Lee Zanders Obituary





Andree Lee Zanders, 74, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at Mercy in Des Moines, Iowa.  Andree was born on May 17, 1946 to Lyle William and Barbara Jean (Kalbach) Zanders.  He attended and graduated from North Polk High School.  After graduation, Andree enlisted in the Navy.  He was in the Navy from January 1965 to January 1971.
On January 2, 1981, he was united in marriage to Carol Ann Anderson.  Andree has three children, son Chris Parrish, two daughters Lisa Fresh and Kelli Oakleaf.
Andree spent most of his life living in Russell Iowa.  He ran his own business and was still working just before he entered the hospital and passed away.
He had a lot of interest besides working to keep him busy.  There was fishing, hunting, gardening, golfing, board games, sci-fi movies, ginseng coffee, and his favorite thing was his grandkids.
Andree was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Barbara Zanders, grandson Thatcher Wayne Oakleaf.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Zanders, his son Chris Parrish of Chariton Iowa, daughters, Lisa (Ron) Fresh of Lorimor Iowa, Kelli (Mike) Oakleaf of Arizona, granddaughter Kelsey (Derrick) Lear of Afton Iowa, grandchildren Zandria, Winston, Ariana of Arizona, brother Gerald (Dolores) Zanders, nephew J.R. (Cristal) Zanders of Bellevue, Nebraska, niece Tara Zanders of Texas, great-grandchildren Shane, Tristin, Ellie, Kylie of Afton Iowa.
Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 27, 2020 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton Iowa.  Memorial can be directed to Lucas County Humane Society.  On line condolences may be left at www.fieldingfuneralhomes.com.

Geralda Darlene Wiig Obituary

Family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Please plan to follow the social distancing rules and no more than 100 people may be in the building at one time. Interment will be at the Edgewood Cemetery in Edgewood, Iowa on Sunday June 7, 2020.

Geralda Darlene Halfhill was born December 28, 1930 to Fred and Amy (Beaman) Halfhill. Geralda was the third of nine children. Geralda attended first grade at Delhi School and her remaining school years at Buck Creek School. Geralda enjoyed sewing doll clothes at a young age, reading, and enjoyed playing basketball in high school.

After high school graduation, Geralda continued her education at the Iowa State Teacher College. Geralda received her teaching certificate and went on to teach both elementary and special education. She graduated from UNI August 1973. She taught in several school districts throughout her teaching career, including: Colesburg, Blairstown, Shellsburg, Center Point, and Russell.

Geralda was blessed with three children: Susan, Ronald, and Theodore. She was also the proud grandmother of eleven grandchildren and thirty-four great grandchildren!

Geralda was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Wiig in 1985. The couple started their life together in Russell before settling in Chariton. Geralda enjoyed tending to her flower gardens. She was very active in the Chariton community. Geralda was the president of the WWI Auxiliary committee, president of the local chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a member of the Lucas County Retired Teachers Association, a Chariton Book Club member, a dedicated member of the First Lutheran Church, and a Charter Member of the Chariton Valley Piecemakers Quilt Guild. Geralda made and donated countless quilts to the Lutheran World Relief Ministries.

When Geralda wasn’t quilting, attending church, reading, or meeting with a group of friends, she was often spotted walking her beloved dog.

Geralda passed away May 26, 2020 at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred & Amy Halfhill; husband, Robert Wiig; granddaughter, Brenda Goben; and four siblings. Geralda is survived by her children: Susan (Paul) Goben, Ronald Hansen, and Theodore (Aurora) Hansen; grandchildren: Christopher Goben, Nicholas Goben, Tami Herrold, Fredrick Hansen, Justin Hansen, Brandi Myers, Joshua Hansen, Benjamin Hansen, Nicole Chuzie, and Vanessa Power; 34 great grandchildren; siblings: Robert Halfhill, Lyndall Weir, Wanda Gulick, and David Halfhill; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
