Mary Jane Schelker, age 61, of Albia, went to be with
the Lord at her home under the care of EveryStep Hospice with her loving
family by her side. She was born on May 17, 1959 to Dean and Helen
(Dingman) Whitson.
Mary graduated from Russell High School, Class of 1977. Mary was united in marriage to Richard Schelker Jr. on March 25, 1983. Mary attended Indian Hills Community College and received her degree in radiology. She worked in medical services as a certified nursing assistant and physical therapist assistant. She then found her passion to be working as a home healthcare provider.
She was a member of the Albia Baptist Temple, where she enjoyed teaching bible school, summer camp, and spy guys. She enjoyed gardening at the community garden, spending time with family and friends, and especially loved being a grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Jr. of Albia; her children Stacey (Matt) Gillaspie of Albia, Ricky (Stacy) Schelker III of Des Moines, Stephany Schelker and Jerald Russell of Ankeny; grandchildren, Marcus A. Major, Shaine W-L Major, Tylar C. Major, Michaela A. Lloyd, Michael Gillaspie, Alexis Gillaspie, Wendy L. Laughridge, Reba R. Phinney, Richard E. Schelker IV, Isabella NN Schelker, Paisley JM Schelker, Emmy R. Van Rheenen, Ayla R. Wilkinson, Keagan R. Klinger, Jared D. Schelker, Summer A. Russell, Sebastian J. Russell, Christian L. Russell; great grandson Roland E. Major; siblings, Myrnalee (Dwight) Dyer, Tommy Whitson; mother-in-law, Rose Marie Schelker; sister-in-law, Roxanne (Gary) Ciprian, brother-in-law, Wade (Laurie) Schelker, brother-in-law, Matthew (Julie) Schelker, brother-in-law, Karlin Schelker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dean Whitson, and Helen (Ivan) McKee, twin sons, Scott and Skylar, and father-in-law, Richard Schelker Sr.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at the Albia Baptist Temple with Pastor Chris Harris officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, opening to the public at 1:00 p.m., with family present from 6-8 p.m.,Tuesday evening at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia.
