Harold Rasmus was born on April 19, 1919 at Chariton, Iowa to Clifford A. Rasmus and Belle (Gookin) Rasmus.
Harold passed away on May 20, 2013 at the Chariton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chariton, Iowa. He was 94 years old.
Harold is survived by his sister, Martha (Rasmus) McCormick and brother-in-law Kenneth C. McCormick of Lucas, Iowa.
Harold immensely enjoyed teasing his nieces Connie (Leon) Ehlers of Lucas, Iowa; Carol McCormick of Bentonville, Arkansas; and Carla (Guy) Hausrath of Plattsburgh, New York.
He is also survived by great-nieces, Laurie (Chad) Breyfogle of Cincinnati, Ohio; Lisa Jo Ehlers, of the United States territory of Guam; Katherine Hausrath of Plattsburgh, New York; great-nephews Kenneth Hausrath, Stephen Hausrath, and Thomas Hausrath, all of Plattsburgh, New York; and great, great-niece Amelia Noel Breyfogle of Cincinnati, Ohio. Harold's early school years were spent at the Meyers country school in Benton Township of Lucas County. When weather allowed he rode his pony, Tommy, to school. Harold graduated from Chariton High School in 1937. He and Kenneth were in the same class. They frequently reminisced about their high school days. Harold was a farmer and raised turkeys and cattle. Harold lived on the farm for over 50 years.
On July 10, 1981 Harold married Genevieve (Gen) Lockridge. After a few years on the farm, they moved to Russell. Harold and Gen faithfully attended the Center Church east of Russell. In 2006 Harold and Gen moved to the Chariton Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. Services will be held May 24, 2013 at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton, Iowa. Visitation with the family will begin at 1:00 p.m. and the funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Russell Cemetery.
