Emil J. Day Passed Away Dec. 20, 2010
Emil J. Day, age 77, of LeClaire was born in Russell, Iowa in 1933 to Raymond and Clara Day. Memorial services were held Dec. 28, 2010 at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport. He was united in marriage to Alice Buckalew in Princeton, Missouri on February 2, 1952. He is survived by his wife, daughter Penny, son Randy, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three sisters, and two brothers. Cathy Jean Nell Obituary
Cathy Jean Nell, 61, of Russell passed away October 5, 2010. Cathy was born January 16, 1949, to Charles and Ethel Molster in Monongahela, PA. She married Ralph E. Nell, Sr. She had three children: James W. Plumb, FL; Charles E. Plumb, MD; and Shannon R. Leathery, Pa; three stepchildren: Philip Nell Jr., Todd Nell, and Pamela Bowman, all of Pa. She is survived by her husband, the six children, eight grandchildren; brother Clark Molster of N.C.; two sisters Marge Critzer and Cheryl Gay Chambers.

Dean Baxter Coles Obituary
Dean Baxter Coles, 92, died October 18 of natural causes. Dean was born to George and Zora Coles on May 8, 1918 in Lucas County. He was united in marriage to Mildred Maxine Wilson on May 14, 1944. They were the parents of five children. Dean and Mildred moved to Russell, Iowa in 1957 and remained there until October 2003 when they moved to an assisted living apartment in Des Moines. Mildred died in 2006 after 62 years of marriage. Dean retired from Hy-Vee as a truck driver in 1981. He enjoyed camping, traveling and wintering in Florida.
He is survived by his children; Larry (Dinah) Coles of Jacksonville, MO; Ronald (Meri) Coles of Clive, IA; Patricia (Jon) Boland of Albia, IA; Patrick (Michelle) Coles of Des Moines, IA; Diane (Tony) Floming of Oregon; eight grandchildren; Chris Holder Schumann, Jason Coles, Fred Hansen, Justin Hansen, Kimberly Krutsinger Kolnes, Brandi Hansen Hatfield, Jessica Coles Rutherford, and Jared Krutsinger, eight great grandchildren; one great great grandson; sister Doris (Donald) Besco of Corydon, IA; sister Norma Gartin of Russell, IA.
Funeral services for Dean will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday October 22, 2010 at Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 21 at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Russell Cemetery.
Memorials may be made out to the Senior Citizens Center Meals on Wheels program or Iowa Hospice. Fielding Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Eugene "Gene" Curran Obituary
Eugene "Gene" Curran, 66, of Russell passed away on November 3, 2010. Gene was born December 26, 1943, to Maurice and Lucille Curran. He was the oldest of seven children. He graduated from Russell Community High School in 1963, Indian Hills Community College in 1966, and Rupert School of Auctioneering in 1968. He married Donna of Corydon on June 22, 1970.
Besides being a lifelong farmer, Gene and his brother Jim operated Curran Brothers Auctioneering Service from 1970 to present. He was also employed for many years by the Russell Sale Barn.
He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his children: Kellie of Melrose and Michael of Chariton. He is also survived by grandchildren Kolby, Luke, Cole and Wyatt; siblings Diana, Mary Jo, Rita, Jim Curran, Lucy and several nieces and nephews. Services were held November 6 with burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose, Iowa.

Kenneth Allen Chase Obituary
Kenneth Allen Chase, age 81 of Milwaukie, Ore. and formerly of Russell, Iowa, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010 at his home in Milwaukie, Ore.
He is survived by his wife Betty, three daughters and their husbands, one son and his wife, all of Ore., and sister-in-law Mary Chase of Chariton, Iowa. He is also survived by a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Kenneth was proceeded in death by his parents, Robert and Stella Chase of Russell, Iowa and a brother Arthur Chase of Chariton, Iowa.
Funeral services were held in Milwaukie, Oregon on Thursday Nov. 18, 2010.

Charles "Squire" Roger Avitt Obituary
Services are pending for Charles "Squire" Roger Avitt. Fielding Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Avitt was 76 when he passed away. Services were held on Nov. 11 at the Fielding Funeral Home. Visitation was held Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 6 - 8 pm also at the funeral home. Interment was at the Oxford Cemetery.

Charles "Squire" was born April 26, 1934 at home in Williamson, Iowa to Mark H. and Jessie R. "Springer" Avitt. Squire passed away November 3, 2010 at his home in Williamson, Iowa, at the age of 76 years, six months and eight days.
Squire grew up in Williamson and graduated from Chariton High School in 1952. In 1952 he joined the United States Air Force. He was a Fire Control Technician and worked in the Sioux City, Iowa and Duluth, MN Areas. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1961. And on this Veterans day, we remember and thank him for his service to our country.
He attended truck driving school in Indiana. He went on to work for Ellsworth trucking as an over the road truck driver till the mid '70's. He then went to work for Apple Lines as an over the road driver till his retirement in 2001.
Squire was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Jessie Avitt, his younger brother, Ronald Avitt, and one nephew, Mark Avitt.
He is survived by a sister, Glea, of Corvallis, Ore. and one brother, Gordon Avitt of Des Moines, Iowa. He is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews, and many friends and acquaintances from Donna's and Leo's Cafe.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010 at Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton, Iowa. Services were held on Thursday Nov. 11, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Paul Olson officiating. Pallbearers were Kerry Avitt, Mathew Avitt, Charley Sapper, Kirk Mueldener, Tyler McQuiston and Jeff Moore. Interment was in the Oxford Cemetery.
He stayed with his brother Gordon Avitt in Russell off and on through the years.

Randel Russell Deemer Obituary
Randel Russell Deemer was born March 31, 1954 in Osceola, Iowa the son of Clarence "Bud" and Patty Deemer.
He was raised in the Derby area until his family moved to Russell where he graduated with the class of 1972. On April 8, 1973 he was united in marriage to Cindi in Boone. Shortly afterward, they moved to Russell, where Randy continued to work.
Randy passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at his home at the age of 56 years. He is survived by his wife, Cindi, daughter, Kelley and two grandsons, Patty Deemer of Russell, his mother and his siblings, Shirley of Russell and Tracy of Lacona and many other family members and friends.
Celebration of Life Service was held at Mason Funeral Home, Pleasantville, Iowa.
For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.

Ardys Edward Force Obituary
Ardys was born December 2, 1923, in Russell, Iowa to Guy E. and Nora E. Force. His family called him "Bud". He graduated from Russell High School in 1941 and attended one semester at Simpson College before joining the Army Air Corp in 1942. After WWII ended his work for the Postal Department took him to Chicago, Des Moines and Omaha. After various other jobs he decided to settle in Tulsa where he spent his last years before his death on July 19, 2010 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Irma, brother Wendell and a niece Peggy. He is survived by brothers Paul (Alene), Donald (Frances), three nephews, two nieces and several grand nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held October 12 at the Russell Cemetery for Ardys Edward Force, 87.
