Later, he moved to Colorado, started a solar business, and eventually worked at Home Depot, applying his construction skills across various departments for 10 years.

After polio left Shirley in a wheelchair, Floyd faithfully cared for her, often praying, “God, let me live just one day longer than Shirley.” When she passed in 2018, Floyd woke up the next morning and questioned God, “This isn’t what we agreed—why am I still here?” He remained with his family for eight more years, continuing to be a source of love and comfort.

Lois C. Fogle Obituary January 25, 1930 - October 1, 2026

Lois Fogle, 96, of Chariton, passed away October 1, 2026, surrounded by her family. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 6th, from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Graveside funeral services will be held following the visitation at the Chariton Cemetery. Memorials in Lois’s name may be made to the Derby Community Center.

Lois Charlene DeBok was born January 25, 1930, in Russell, Iowa, to Harold and Inez DeBok. She grew up with two other siblings, which always made life interesting. Her roots stayed thick in the Lucas County area, attending school at Russell and then high school in Chariton, graduating in 1948 from Chariton High School

On April 12, 1953, Lois married Ronald Fogle in Russell, Iowa. Together, they built a life centered around their family and shared many years together before Ronald’s passing.

Lois worked for Goode Heating & Cooling for 25 years as a part-time bookkeeper. Over those years, she became a familiar and dependable part of the business and developed many friendships along the way.

Lois always enjoyed gardening, and her family remembers that the garden served another important purpose over the years. When raising the kids became a little too much and she needed a break, that was where Lois went. Her life was centered around her family and she cherished every moment spent with them just as her family cherished spending time with her. Family gatherings were always fun and the grandchildren will always remember her reading the Gold Bug Book to them. She always remembered each grandchild’s favorite dessert and would have it ready when they visited or for their birthdays.

Another thing Lois loved was playing cards and reading. She often said she was born with a deck of cards in her hand and taught her grandchildren that there were no friends in a game of cards. However, if she was losing she’d say,” be nice to the old lady!”

Lois was a founding member of the American Legion Auxiliary for an impressive 75 years, having joined in 1953.

Lois will be remembered by her children: Gary (Michiko) Fogle of Derby, Diane (Mike) Barnes of Texarkana, TX, and Dennis (Terri) Fogle of Pella; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jean DeBok; and many other extended family members and friends.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Fogle in 2012; her parents, Harold and Inez DeBok; her sister, Joan McKinley; her brother, Dale DeBok; and grandsons: Joshua and Jeremy Fogle; and great granddaughters: Jerica and Jocelyn.
